Carafate is suggested in:
Short-term treatment (up to 2 months) of active duodenal ulcer. Treatment needs to be continued for 4 to 8 weeks unless healing has been demonstrated by x - ray or endoscopic evaluation, while healing with sucralfate may occur during the very first week or two.
Maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcer patients at reduced dosage after healing of acute ulcers.
Carafate is a protective. It works by forming a protective layer on the ulcer to serve as a barrier against acidity, bile salts, and nutrients in the stomach.
Use Carafate as directed by your physician.
Just take Carafate by mouth on an empty belly at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
Do not take an antacid for a minimum of half an hour before or after using Carafate.

Don't take Carafate at the same time as other medications. Just take Carafate at least 2 hours after other medications. In case you are not confident about the optimum time to take Carafate, ask your physician or pharmacist.
In case you skip a dose of Carafate, go as soon as you can. Go back to your regular dosing timetable, when it is nearly time for your next dose. Don't take 2 doses at the same time.

Some medications may interact with Carafate. Inform your doctor if you're getting any other medicines, particularly the following:
