Claritin (loratadine) is an antihistamine that lessens the effect of the natural substance histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.
Simply take Claritin just as directed in the tag, or as your physician has recommended. Don't use in larger or smaller quantities or for longer than recommended.
Claritin is normally taken once every day. Follow your physician's directions.
Do not crush, chew, or break the regular Claritin pill. Swallow the pill whole.
Measure fluid form of Claritin with a special dose measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. Ask your pharmacist for one, if you do not have a device.
To take Claritin RediTabs:
Maintain the pill in its blister pack till you're ready to take the medicine. Available the package and pare back the foil from the pill blister. Do not push a tablet through the foil or you may damage the tablet.
Using dry hands, remove the tablet and put it on your own tongue. It will begin to dissolve promptly.
Do not consume the whole. Enable it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing.
As the pill swallow several-times dissolves. If desired, you can drink water to help swallow the dissolved tablet.
Call your doctor in case your symptoms don't improve.
In the event you skipped a dose - take the missed dose the moment you remember. Skip the missed dosage if it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose.
Grownups and kids 6 years old and over: The recommended dose of CLARITIN (loratadine) is one 10 mg tablet or reditab, or 2 teaspoonfuls (10 mg) of syrup once daily.
Children 2 to 5 years old: The suggested dose of CLARITIN (loratadine) Syrup is 5 mg (1 teaspoonful) once-daily.
In adults and children 6 years of age and over with liver failure or renal insufficiency (GFR 30 mL minute), the starting dosage should be 10 mg (one tablet or two teaspoonfuls) every other evening. In kids 2 to 5 years of age with liver failure or renal insufficiency, the starting dosage should be 5 mg (one teaspoonful) every other day.
Supervision of CLARITIN REDITABS (loratadine rapidly-disintegrating tablets): Spot CLARITIN REDITABS (loratadine rapidly disintegrating tablets) on the language. Tablet disintegration occurs quickly. Provide with or without water.
Claritin may be stored at room temperature and should be kept in a dry area. Use it within 6 months after opening the foil pouch in which it's loaded. Simply take each tablet soon after removing it entirely from its individual blister.
You should not take Claritin if you are allergic to loratadine or to desloratadine (Clarinex).
Should you have liver or kidney disease ask a doctor or pharmacist before using Claritin
Don't give Claritin to your child younger than 6 years-old without the advice of a physician.
Loratadine disintegrating tablets (Claritin Reditab) may contain phenylalanine. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU speak to your own doctor before using Claritin Reditabs).
FDA pregnancy class B: Claritin is not anticipated to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your physician if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant during treatment. Loratadine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you're breastfeeding an infant.
Follow your physician's instructions about any restrictions on foods, beverages, or activity when you are using this medicine.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these symptoms of an allergic reaction to Claritin: urticaria; difficult breathing; swelling of the encounter, lips, tongue, or neck. Call your physician immediately when you have a serious complication such as:
